What is a travel eSIM?

A travel eSIM is a prepaid mobile data plan for the country or region you’re visiting, installed on your phone’s built-in eSIM instead of on a plastic SIM card. You buy it online, install it before you fly, and it connects to local networks when you land. Your home SIM stays in the phone, so you keep your number for calls and texts while the eSIM carries your data.

How to choose a travel eSIM

Data. For maps, messaging, social and browsing, about 1 GB a day is comfortable for most travellers. Streaming and hotspotting a laptop use more.
Validity. Pick a plan that lasts at least as long as your trip. The clock only starts when you arrive.
One country or several. Visiting more than one country? A regional eSIM covers several countries on one plan, with no switching at the border.
Top-ups or unlimited. If you’re unsure, start smaller on a plan that supports top-ups and add data mid-trip. Heavy users can choose an unlimited plan, priced per day, where one is available.

What is an eSIM?

An eSIM is a digital SIM already built into your phone. Instead of swapping a plastic card, you install a travel data plan in a couple of taps and it appears alongside your normal SIM. Most phones from 2018 onward support it.

When should I buy my travel eSIM?

As soon as you book. The plan only starts when the eSIM first connects to a network at your destination, so it never loses days while you wait to fly. Install it on Wi-Fi at home and it activates when you land.

Will my number and WhatsApp still work?

Yes. Your home SIM stays in place for calls and texts, and WhatsApp keeps working exactly as before. The eSIM simply carries your data while you travel.

Is my phone compatible?
