Top-ups & data limits

Run low mid-trip? Add more data in 30 seconds. Here’s how it works.

How to top up

  1. Log in to your account.
  2. Find your active eSIM. You’ll see remaining data and days.
  3. Tap Top up and pick a size.
  4. Pay. The new data is added to your existing eSIM — no need to install a new QR or change any settings.

Top-ups usually appear on your phone within a minute. If it takes longer, toggle airplane mode briefly to force a refresh.

How data stacks

If your current plan has data and days left when you top up, the new data is added to the remaining balance. Days run from whichever plan ends latest. So if you have 200 MB left on a 7-day plan with 3 days remaining, and you top up with another 5 GB / 30 days, you’ll end up with 5.2 GB and 30 days.

What happens when you hit zero

Your phone shows “No Data” or “Low Data Mode” depending on the OS. No charges accrue — it just stops working. You can still use Wi-Fi as normal. Top up to resume, or your home SIM’s data roaming will take over if you have it enabled (most people don’t).

Watching your usage

  • iPhone: Settings → Mobile Data → scroll to the SimKit line. It’ll show current period usage. Reset it at the start of each trip to make it easier to read.
  • Android: Settings → Network & internet → SIMs → SimKit → App data usage.
  • SimKit account: the most accurate view — logs into our network partner and reads remaining data directly.

How much data do you actually need?

Rough guides per day, assuming you’re on Wi-Fi at the hotel:

  • Maps, ride-share, the occasional Instagram check: 100–300 MB/day. A 3 GB / 15-day plan is plenty.
  • Heavy social, lots of photo uploads, Google Translate constantly: 500 MB – 1 GB/day. A 10 GB / 30-day plan is the sweet spot.
  • Video calls, streaming on the go, tethering the laptop: 1–3 GB/day. Go 20 GB or unlimited.

If you’re unsure, start smaller. Topping up is faster than realising you over-bought.
